After a misty start on Wearside, the sun finally came out to beat down on the 100 plus volunteers who turned up at Hylton Dene in Sunderland. Litter picking, path clearing, fence building, bridge painting kept everyone busy throughout the day. Some well earned rest over lunchtime was accompanied by music from a couple of local bands – and one decidedly uconvincing Jimmy Saville “lookalike”. David Bellamy popped down to lend his support and presenter Alex Watson even got her hands dirty, too.
