The Big Clean-Up in the ITV Border region was a big success with two clean-up projects – one urban and one rural.

The urban clean-up took place at a beautiful and historic wood north of the city. However, in recent years it has suffered from anti-social behaviour and has become a drinking den. On Sunday a volunteer team made up of local business people and concerned residents descended on the wood and after a few hours of litter picking the wood was in pristine condition.

In the countryside at Talkin Tarn a second team cleared a ditch of silt and vegetation to allow drainage into the Tarn. The ditch will now provide an access route for otters and other wildlife.
